If you’re tired of chasing payments, justifying your pricing, and dealing with unresponsive clients — you're not alone.
The real problem?
You're likely not qualifying or targeting the right clients to begin with.
In this post, I’ll walk you through how to identify and attract your dream clients — the ones who pay on time, don’t ghost, and give you space to deliver your best work.
Let’s fix this once and for all.
Why Finding Dream Clients Changes Everything
Getting your ideal client profile (ICP) right isn’t just a “nice-to-have.” It’s a business multiplier.
Dream clients:
Respect your boundaries
Pay on time (or early)
Don’t haggle on price
Follow your process
Refer others like them
If your calendar is filled with time-wasters, tire-kickers, or needy clients — this is your sign to upgrade your client base.
The 4 Types of Clients (And Who to Focus On)
We break client types into four clear levels. Once you understand this model, you’ll never look at client acquisition the same way again.
1. Bleeding Clients
These clients are in crisis. Their business is on the brink, and they treat every decision like life or death.
They:
Question everything
Constantly ask for guarantees
Need hand-holding every step
Often churn before results happen
Best approach: Only work with them if you have a safety plan and clear process — otherwise, avoid.
2. Slipping Clients
These clients aren’t quite bleeding, but they’re sliding. They’re fixated on short-term ROI and reluctant to invest properly.
They:
Ask “How long will this take?”
Want immediate proof
Lack the patience or resources for your best work
Best approach: Only take them on if you can align expectations up front.
3. Stable Clients
Now we’re talking. These clients have solid revenue, brand stability, and trust experts.
They:
Respect your process
See you as a strategic partner
Give you space to do your best work
Best approach: Prioritise these. They’re reliable, respectful, and ready.
4. Leading Clients
These are dream clients. They’re industry leaders with strong brand presence.
They:
Move fast
Want to stay ahead
Hire experts to maintain their edge
Best approach: Target them proactively. They’ll elevate your brand just by association.
Step 1: Define Your Perfect Future Client (PFC)
We call this your Perfect Future Client — someone you’d love to work with over and over again.
Here’s how to define them:
Demographics: Size, revenue, team structure
Industry: Niche you want to be known for
Psychographics: What they value, how they think
Behaviour: Are they active on social? Open to change? Coachable?
Step 2: Use the Motivation Matrix™
Once you’ve identified who they are, it’s time to map their internal drivers.
This includes:
Pains: What’s hurting now? What needs fixing?
Frustrations: What’s annoying but tolerable?
Fears: What do they worry will happen if nothing changes?
Aspirations: Where do they want to go next?
This insight allows you to create marketing that speaks directly to them.
Step 3: Map the Transformation
Next, paint a clear picture of the before and after you create.
What’s their current state?
What’s the ultimate result you help them achieve?
What tools, strategies, or frameworks do you use to get them there?
Tip: Use real examples and outcomes when possible.
Step 4: Know Where They Hang Out
Once you know who you’re looking for — you need to go find them.
Here’s where dream clients hang out:
LinkedIn: Use Sales Navigator or filters
Websites: “Meet the Team” pages are gold
YouTube: Watch what they post or comment on
Book Reviews: Did they review Profit First or a niche book?
Podcasts & Interviews: Who are they talking to or learning from?
Communities: Slack groups, Facebook groups, forums, masterminds
Use this data to engage meaningfully — not to pitch. The goal is to build connection first, conversion second.
Bonus: Use AI to Speed This Up
We’ve created an AI-powered PFC Finder Bot to help you plug in your audience and get pre-filled messaging ideas, templates, and ICP breakdowns.
Stop saying yes to the wrong clients because you “need the money.”
Dial in your dream client. Build your marketing around them. And watch everything get easier — your sales calls, your content, your delivery, your confidence.
